Calendar Collage

Well trying new things this year, starting with a mix media Calendar to capture daily unique "happenings" in my life....many of my peeps have joined Kate Crane who has been doing this for a few years - the calendars I have seen are truly inspiring...
Started with prepping pages (that's a lot for a full year of spreads). Seriously, I need to buy stock in 1. Wax Paper 2. Gesso 3. Workable Fixative 4. Sponge Brushes just to name a few must haves...
I was inspired by a photo on the March 17th 1958 issue of Life magazine...
I think a new year means "start a new song" don't you?... used techniques from Julie Fei-Fan Balzer including building up a gesso background to get different surface textures, water colouring, stamping and collage...
Do you  recognize the best selling vocal group of the time? (I honestly can say I am too young LOL)
They were the McGuires...
but now I need to be sure to capture something everyday...and get started on February as this seemed to take forever! Enjoy. Jewels

  2. Wow, I LOVE your January Calendar pages, they're fab! Start a new song is a great idea for the beginning of the New Year. Looking forward to seeing your pages for the rest of the year :)

  3. What a great idea. I'm going to pop over and have a look at Kate's work. This is something I would have joined in with had I known about it, but will keep it in mind for next so I can start off properly with January. I love the colours you've used here Jewels, so bright and cheery for what is a dull time of year weather-wise - well here in NE Scotland anyway. It's still quite dark just now and it's almost 9am, lol.
Can I safely assume your hand is all better now?
    Mo :0) xx

  4. What a great project, Julie! I assume you jot down something each day on the little blue squares on the page. Along with the fun of putting it together, it will be amazing to for you to reread all your thoughts in the future. Good Job!! Hope to see you tonight at guild! Carol

  5. Ha! Another convert! I started doing this in the middle of last November. Didn't bother me that it wasn't the start of a new year or even a new month LOL. And I'm still with it. Love the shadowed edges of your day boxes, gives the page a lot of depth. The color combo is good too. Welcome to the club.

  6. Very cool idea! Might try it on my own-- maybe slightly smaller scale. Listing weeks instead of days sounds a little less daunting! Are you Tag Tuesdaying this year?
