They Call Me Mellow Yellow....

...well not really but be prepared for a lot of yellow in this post LOL!
I joined in for the first time over at A Swap for All Seasons hosted by Linda. The fact that the theme was "Spring" was just what I wanted to work on! Three items needed to be created and sent to another swapper starting with a handmade card.
I have always loved this image - I have two postcards from England from the late 1950's  featuring images done by Berta Hummel. I copied this one to use for my card. The background is fabric I copied on to card stock (one of my favorite things to do).
The second item was a handmade tag...
This is similar to another I did for Tag Tuesday awhile back. I had all the materials still so I figured "what the heh" and included yellow birds on the tag.
I included a little stand for displaying.
Last was a little yellow "destash" - the timing was perfect as I have been doing a lot of that lately.
Though surprisingly I don't have a lot of yellow...
See those clothes pegs - my decorative painting "phase" still comes in handy now and then LOL. Any who everything has been sent to Elizabeth. Looking forward to seeing what I will be receiving from Bev! Enjoy. Jewels

Deal Day?

Well I suppose the fact that money left my wallet really does not constitute a "deal day" LOL....but it certainly was a good one today...
Starting at the grocery store! I like to check where they have office supplies - you just never know (like I need more decorative tape ;>)...
Then Michael's have a 25% of your purchase (including sale items) today and tomorrow (pay attention my American peeps)....
The foam pieces were marked down to clear for $1.99 so add the overall discount and that IS a deal - will mount these for stamping....(like I need more stamps)
But my favorite was the dollar store - a lot of times I never find anything but they happened to be bringing in their Spring items - I already have plans for using the tissue paper and serviettes! (like I need more tissue paper and serviettes)
I'm saving the best for last (something I actually don't have LOL) - these are not huge but wonderful colours (and for a $1.00 I may just go back to find some more!) - off to find a home for them! Enjoy. Jewels

Nice way to spend a Saturday...

..with friends I had not socialized with for awhile.
One of our Guild members put on a "red work" class though it was really about much more than that...
Leslie does such a nice job - a real fun instructor...

And some gorgeous examples for us to look at.
The class was intended to show us how to make this (a kit was included). Leslie provided lots of great tips and demonstrated different "tinting" techniques. I got so far with mine and have brought home to finish (I am DETERMINED not to let it become a UFO LOL).
I smuggled Mr. Darcy in who took it all in stride (what a funny little man)...

Nice to chat and catch up with everyone! Jewels

Renaissance Mash Up 2 of 3

So here is what I sent to Jo and Lenna for our latest mail art swap....
I had as much fun with the envelopes as the card - a little "hint" appeared on the covers - in this case the lovely 1960's phone. The background is tissue paper.
I "mashed" the pretty Renaissance woman (look familiar Leslie!) with communication imagery - I would love to have that pink phone, wouldn't you LOL...
Lenna's hint was the map (also tissue paper) and the bicycle...
I envision this young man wandering with a knapsack and guitar breaking young girls hearts :>. I used a clothing tag and a picture of a Greenpeace button I have. In the background is a page from an old passport.

Enjoy. Jewels

Renaissance Mash Up 1 of 3

First thanks everyone who left a response to my Patina Dilemma....fortunately the "green cast" of the photo is not a true color - it really is more brown so I am pretty certain it is not some kind of mold (yeah). No washing for the moment but I will keep an eye on it. I am going with the suggestion to "take turns" on the hangars - the collar is currently hanging on the "bunny" hangar in the hopes that Spring really is on its way LOL...
So what is Renaissance Mash Up? Take an image (person or other) from the Renaissance period and "mash up" with something unexpected. I got the idea from Mandy's Magical World. It was my most recent Mail Art theme with Lenna, Jo and an extra one with another peep, Leslie.
Hers actually made its way to Maple Hill first. Very lovely and a tip on using liquid matte gel medium (rather than my mod podge standby) for the final coat - I really like the effect and will have to try it.
I had a lot of fun with hers - as soon as I saw these girls I could not help but think of Mall Rats (I am pretty sure this day and age that is where they would be - if I could have figured it out one would have a cell phone LOL). The background collage is from magazines from the 60's (I was determined to use only what I had) with the exception....
...of this! Well, that's where you would "find" them right! Can't wait to unveil my exchange with Lenna and Jo. Enjoy. Jewels

Patina Dilemma

You know the old adage - out of sight, out of mind - that is so true at Maple Hill LOL....
I regularly go looking for something (in this case vintage scraps for a Swap project) and come across things I totally forgot about...
Like this lovely crotchet collar - obviously intended for a child...
Or these old children's hangers (I know the packet I found them in was only a $1.00).
So the dilemma - to clean or not to clean?
While I did wash the hangers (they were definitely in need of it) the collar really is a question mark.
Some times I do clean - and am very glad I did, but other times I regret it - in this case I risk loosing that lovely mellow brown (which really does not come through well in the pictures)....hmmm. Thoughts (and what hanger should I use to display)? Jewels
